Suspect Arrested in Atlanta ICE Firebombing Attempt
Inique Hinton, 31, of Douglasville, Georgia, was arrested Friday around 6 p.m. at a Panda Lane home in Cobb County and charged with arson and damaging government property. On Oct. 20 around 8 p.m., authorities say a person walking by the ICE building at 180 Ted Turner Drive ignited and threw an incendiary device that hit a fence; flames spread and caused limited damage. Atlanta police saw the act and chased the suspect on foot but did not catch him. Within an hour, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, HSI, and Atlanta Police teams collected evidence including burned cloth, lighter fluid, a glass bottle, and a lighter. The FBI offered up to $20,000 after releasing suspect photos. Hinton was taken into custody peacefully at a residence he knew that was not his primary home. The arson charge has a five-year mandatory minimum and up to 20 years; damaging government property carries up to 10 years. Theodore Hertzberg called it an attack on democracy, terrorism, and political violence, noted warrants being executed Friday, and said attacks on government property and federal law enforcement will not be tolerated. Shawn Matthews said the rapid response shows such behavior will not be tolerated in Atlanta or Georgia. Contested: none on the core facts. Motive is not established. Investigation ongoing.
