Tenerife Match Abandoned After De Miguel Dies
CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel, 30, died after suffering cardiac arrest and neurological complications following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish second-division match, which was abandoned at 2-2. Owono was sent off. Spanish police opened a standard investigation into the non-natural death, but a local prosecutor said criminal charges appeared unlikely. The case has also prompted scrutiny of De Miguel’s emergency treatment, including questions about CPR and defibrillator use; Owono said he was devastated, and teammates defended him amid online abuse. Clubs, players and football authorities paid tribute, and some matches were postponed or marked with silences. De Miguel’s family thanked supporters and asked for privacy.
