King Charles to Host AI Summit in Scotland

King Charles III is set to convene leaders from Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic and other organizations at Dumfries House in Scotland to discuss developing artificial intelligence for public benefit and whether shared principles are needed. The meeting, organized with the Ditchley Foundation, is intended to provide a neutral forum for examining AI’s opportunities and the responsibilities involved in managing its risks. It follows warnings from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman that rapidly advancing frontier systems could become difficult to control, with Amodei cautioning that AI agents might cause severe disruption within months. Anthropic has also documented the use of its models in cyber operations, weapons development, surveillance and fraud. Reaching international consensus may be difficult as U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected calls to slow development and Chinese commentary has portrayed such efforts as part of a geopolitical strategy against Beijing.
