Obama unloads on Trump while stumping for Democrats ahead of midterms
On Saturday Barack Obama spoke in Cleveland, Ohio and Michigan for Democrats ahead of the November 3, 2026 midterms. Donald Trump voted early with Melania Trump in West Palm Beach, Florida and rallied in Perry, Georgia, pledging a $5,000 payout to every adult American if Republicans win both chambers of Congress. Obama backed Sherrod Brown against John Husted and Amy Acton against Vivek Ramaswamy; Acton spoke before him. Obama said, "After two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in the modern era, you get a chance to say, 'enough is enough'." He said everything is more expensive now than before "you know who." Trump said the country is getting stronger and those pump prices are going to come down, "we're taking in massive amounts of money through tariffs," and Democrats would "loot your wealth" and "annihilate your borders." What is contested and who says what: Obama said everything is more expensive now; Trump said pump prices are going to come down. Obama said the Iran war has given Tehran leverage over the Strait of Hormuz. The White House announced Melania Trump secured a ceasefire in a Russian-occupied city. Ramaswamy's ad featured Acton's estranged mother calling her a liar and omitted that her husband was charged with raping Acton as a child.
