TROOPS plans $12 million AI infrastructure unit for Southeast Asia

Nasdaq-listed TROOPS Inc., a Hong Kong financial services and property group, said on Sept. 24, 2026 it will commit US$12 million to a new AI infrastructure unit for Southeast Asia, with an initial US$6 million allocation expected by the end of 2026. The company is evaluating sites, partnerships and assets in Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong, with Johor a key focus due to data-center growth. A proposed partnership with Texas-based Bfarms365 LLC would cover GPU-as-a-service, AI inference, edge computing, decentralized computing and cloud orchestration. CEO Damian Thurnheer said Southeast Asia, Malaysia in particular, has become where Asia's compute is being built, and capital is no longer only American. CTO Tommy Wing Ling Lui said the firm already runs machine learning on rented infrastructure and that owning capacity changes what it can build. TROOPS cited MIDA figures of RM385.7 billion in approved Malaysian data-center investments from 2021 to mid-2026, and Johor capacity of 850 MW operational, 1,800 MW under construction and 2,700 MW in the pipeline.
