Voters add 'I Voted' stickers to memorials for immigration operation victims
Voters in Minneapolis and Houston are leaving “I Voted” stickers and messages at memorials for people killed by federal immigration agents, turning the tributes into expressions of grief and protest during the midterm elections. In Minneapolis, stickers have appeared at memorials for ICU nurse Alex Pretti and Renee Good, both killed in January during a federal immigration operation; in Houston, voters have added them to a memorial for construction worker Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was fatally shot by ICE agents. The displays reflect how the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement has become a powerful election issue, amid signs that Latino voters are turning against the administration’s approach. Pretti’s parents have pressed federal officials to release evidence about his killing, while Good’s family has filed civil lawsuits.
