Prosecutors cite text messages of Malik Beasley shoving a teammate aside for a rebound with 1.1 seconds left against the Clippers on March 10, 2024, to clear a prop bet. Court records filed Friday indicated he intends to change his not-guilty plea. His lawyer, Steve Haney, said a final decision is expected early next week. Beasley was charged June 29, 2026 in the Eastern District of New York. Prosecutors allege he manipulated his stats in four Milwaukee Bucks games in 2023-24 to settle gambling debts tied to former teammate Ed Davis. They say the scheme collapsed when he went over a rebounding prop against the Nets on March 21, 2024 and co-defendants demanded a refund from Davis. In December 2023 Davis texted him: "Only way you can beat Vegas is sports betting. Everything else, they got the edge." WHAT'S CONTESTED: The New York Times says Beasley is to plead guilty; ESPN says he is negotiating a deal. Haney said no final decision is made and called the indictment a one-sided charging document, not evidence. Davis and former agent Paolo Zamorano pleaded not guilty; Robert Gorodetsky and Ernesto Plascencia intend guilty pleas; William Brown already pleaded guilty. Detroit withdrew a three-year, $42 million offer. His NBA future is unresolved.

If the evidence from those four Bucks games holds up he deserves whatever sentence comes with the guilty plea.
It's a shame players like Beasley would tank their own stats just to help some bettors cash in on props.
