Ernie Johnson Announces 2026-27 as Final Season on Inside the NBA
Ernie Johnson announced on Oct. 28, 2026, that the 2026-27 season will be his last hosting Inside the NBA after 37 years. The 70-year-old began hosting in 1990 after joining Turner Sports in 1989. Co-hosts are Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal. The show moved from Turner to ESPN/ABC for 2025-26. Johnson will continue March Madness and other broadcasting projects. Adam Silver said few people have shaped the way fans experience the NBA as profoundly as Ernie Johnson. Barkley said thank you for being our leader. O'Neal said without you it is going to be very, very difficult. Draymond Green said on his podcast Johnson is the best point guard he has ever played with, no disrespect to Steph Curry. Green said Ernie Johnson on a set is as incredible as they come, he sees everything, and I tip my cap to him heading into his last year. CONTESTED: The LA Times reports bypass surgery two months ago and that show prep has become more challenge than joy. The wire summary reports surgery 14 months ago. Health issues and more time with family factored into the decision, per sources. Barkley has said he will step down after 2026-27 if Johnson leaves. Green said Barkley may be serious this time. The record does not address who, if anyone, succeeds him.
Where do you stand?
