Israeli Strike Kills Five in Gaza City
An Israeli airstrike hit an apartment building in western Gaza City early Saturday, killing at least five people and injuring several others, according to Palestinian medical and emergency services. The dead reportedly included four women, among them Christian mother Maisa Abu Dawood and her daughter Mary; rescue crews continued searching for missing people. The strike reportedly targeted senior Hamas official Ali al-Amoudi, whose fate was unclear, and Israel’s military had not commented. It came amid escalating Israeli strikes and competing Israeli and Hamas claims over alleged Gaza ceasefire violations. Separately, Palestinian health officials have reported more than 74,000 deaths and over 175,000 injuries in Gaza since the war began in October 2023; one update counted 74,032 dead and 175,142 wounded.
