GOP Senate Nominees Urge End to Iran War, Breaking From Trump

Mike Rogers released a new campaign ad saying the war with Iran needs to end, and end quickly, so energy costs will plummet. He said Michigan families are struggling with grocery prices and posted that they cannot wait, urging a temporary embargo on diesel exports. Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who leads him by 2.1 points in the RealClearPolitics average, replied on social media: "You've spent your entire campaign supporting the war in Iran. Liar, coward, fraud." Ashley Hinson posted on X that Iowans are being squeezed and should not foot the bill at the pump or checkout for the war, and that it needs a successful and immediate end. She backed suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports, expanding ethanol use, and relief for farmers and truckers. Josh Turek, trailing Hinson by 1.3 points, said: "It's easy to send a tweet but when you had the chance to vote to end this war, you chose not to." He said she voted seven times to continue it, including last week. Chuck Grassley also urged Trump to restrict diesel exports. A Daily Mail/JL Partners poll found 49% of voters say Trump was wrong to launch military action in Iran; only 25% say the U.S. is winning.
