US Warns Allies of Potential Five-Year Weapons Delays

The United States has warned allies that deliveries of some missiles and air-defense systems could be delayed by up to five years as it replenishes weapons stocks depleted during the war with Iran, which began Feb. 28. Germany pressed Washington to accelerate Tomahawk cruise missiles and Typhon ground-based launchers, but Raytheon is unlikely to fill Germany's order within five years. Eastern European countries began experiencing delivery delays shortly after the war started. Washington informed Japan in April that Tomahawk deliveries would be delayed by up to two years. The U.S. used over half of its most advanced Patriot missile variants, about one-third of its Tomahawk stockpile, and nearly half of its precision-strike missiles and THAAD interceptors. The Congressional Budget Office estimates up to two-thirds of the missile defense interceptor stockpile has been depleted since June 2025. A Pentagon inspector general report released this week cites strategic inventory shortfalls and industrial base bottlenecks. The United States spent $22.3 billion on munitions between February and June. President Donald Trump and the White House have disputed claims that U.S. supplies are inadequate. Lockheed Martin is raising PAC-3 MSE annual production from about 600 to 2,000.
