Dubuque Uncovers Solidarity Mural Before Trump Rally
Dubuque officials ordered the removal of a tarp placed over the city’s “Solidarity” mural at the Five Flags Civic Center ahead of President Donald Trump’s Republican rally. The city said it had not authorized changes to the building’s exterior and directed the venue’s operator, Oak View Group, to take the tarp down. The center’s general manager said the Office of Presidential Advance requested the covering to make room for exterior branding and a U.S. flag; the venue, operator and city had not approved it. Created in 2020 after George Floyd’s death, the mural celebrates peace, unity and the community’s diversity, including LGBTQ+ people and people with disabilities.
