Oklahoma State stunned No. 6 Oregon 39-31 in Stillwater, ending a 21-game losing streak against FBS opponents and becoming the first FBS team to snap a losing streak of at least 10 games by defeating an AP top-10 opponent. The victory was the first for coach Eric Morris, who took over after the Cowboys went 1-11 last season and lost to Tulsa in their opener, prompting fans to storm the field. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker led the upset with 317 passing yards, two touchdowns, 109 rushing yards and another score, while Caleb Hawkins added 110 rushing yards and a touchdown. Oklahoma State outgained Oregon 554-281 and sealed the win with Mestemaker’s fourth-quarter touchdown run and a late defensive stop, despite throwing two interceptions. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore passed for 191 yards and two touchdowns but struggled early, and the loss significantly hurt the Ducks’ national championship and College Football Playoff prospects after their narrow season-opening win over Boise State.
