Broncos wide receiver Jaylen Waddle left Denver's 30-16 win over Arizona in the fourth quarter with a chest injury after a botched reverse. With 4:51 remaining, Waddle recovered a fumbled exchange from Bo Nix on a play that lost 11 yards as Arizona's Josh Sweat landed on him. He grabbed his left chest and shoulder area, was checked by trainers, went to the medical tent then the locker room, and did not return. Waddle finished with four catches for 48 yards on seven targets. He had been limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday with a chest issue, was a full participant Friday with no injury designation, and has 26 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown through seven games. Sean Payton volunteered criticism of his own call in the postgame press conference. He asked "Why hasn’t anyone asked me about the dumb reverse call?" referenced that "If you look it up, in 2008 in a similar situation, even a more radical reverse" was "Fumbled. Tampa Bay beat us. I know better," added "Every once in a while you fall in love with a play," and said "…It was awful. I’m sorry." Zach Allen grabbed his right hamstring late, was checked by trainers, walked off on his own, and later told reporters he was fine after three tackles. Pat Surtain II did not play after being listed questionable, with the Broncos targeting a Week 8 return against Kansas City. Sai'Vion Jones recorded his first career sack on Jacoby Brissett. Denver had not provided a further update on Waddle.

“Broncos’ Jaylen Waddle exits with chest injury”Waddle's chest injury from that fumble landing could sideline him longer than we think.
That reverse play was a dumb risk with the win already locked up, especially this late.
