The NFL will not punish the Philadelphia Eagles for clearing quarterback Jalen Hurts to play Week 5 against Jacksonville in London with a superficial blood clot, according to an anonymous league source cited by Jonathan Jones of The Athletic. The source said the league concluded the medical process was handled appropriately and will not issue punishment for that handling or for Hurts not receiving an injury designation ahead of the game. The clot stemmed from a Week 4 calf injury against the Rams. Hurts was reportedly hospitalized the night before the London game and played on little sleep. Further evaluation later found the clot had moved into his lungs, ending his season; Yahoo reported clots in both lungs. He is to be treated with blood thinners and is expected to make a full recovery. Tanner McKee will start at quarterback for the remainder of the season. Nick Sirianni faced reporter questions about Hurts' health and the decision to play him the day before the NFL finding was reported. Tom Pelissero reported the Eagles and Hurts are on the same page and there may be less to the story than thought. The Eagles entered Week 7 at 2-4 against the Dallas Cowboys, also 2-4, on Monday night.

It's good he's expected to recover but teams need stricter rules on playing through lung issues like this.
Hurts should never have been allowed to travel with a clot already detected no matter what the tests showed.
The NFL did the right thing by not punishing the Eagles since their doctors followed the rules for clearance.
