Eagles place Jalen Hurts on injured reserve after blood clot diagnosis
Jalen Hurts sought treatment for calf discomfort on Oct. 8 after being cleated in the Oct. 4 loss to the Rams. An ultrasound in London on Oct. 10 found a superficial blood clot in his calf. Doctors cleared him to play, and he went the full Oct. 11 game against Jacksonville, a 19-17 loss at Tottenham Stadium. Follow-up imaging showed movement in the clot. The Eagles placed him on injured reserve on Oct. 17. On Oct. 19 the team and his agent announced further evaluations confirmed deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. He will receive anticoagulant treatment, cannot do contact activities, and is expected to recover fully. On Oct. 20 league spokesman Brian McCarthy said the NFL will not investigate or punish the Eagles. A source told Jonathan Jones of The Athletic the situation was 'handled appropriately.' Nick Sirianni described Hurts as 'like a brother.' Contested: NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson speculated on air that Hurts might be distancing himself from Philadelphia's struggles. Tanner McKee started and went 26-for-45 for 215 yards and one touchdown in the Oct. 18 loss to Carolina that dropped the Eagles to 2-4. Injured reserve requires Hurts to miss at least four games.
