UN Commission Alleges Gaza Genocide Despite Ceasefire
A UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry report published Oct 26, 2026 said Israel continued genocidal acts in Gaza after the U.S.-brokered October 2025 ceasefire. It reported military control expanded from 53% to at least 60% and at least 196 Palestinians killed near the Yellow Line from Oct 10, 2025 to early April 2026. Chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said West Bank killings and home destruction form part of a strategy to exterminate and displace Palestinians. Airstrike deaths there rose from 6 before Oct 7, 2023 to 254 by Sept 30, 2026, with 34,176 still displaced in August 2026. Palestinian authorities put Gaza deaths above 74,000 since the Oct 7, 2023 attack that killed about 1,200 in Israel. The report stated that Israeli military operations, complemented by sustained settler violence, form part of a widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population in the West Bank, and recommended Israel end the occupation, end genocide in Gaza, and end impunity for crimes against Palestinian children. UN documentation recorded almost 300 Palestinian journalists killed and 125 media offices destroyed by October 2025. CONTESTED: Israel rejects the allegations. Quote: "The attempt to destroy the Jewish state ... continues today through efforts by actors such as the UN Commission of Inquiry to undermine Israel's legitimacy and deny its fundamental right to exist and defend itself" — Ambassador Daniel Meron. Francesca Albanese was set to present findings to the UN Human Rights Council on Monday.
