Zelenskyy Urges Parliament to Dismiss Prosecutor General

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, September 14, 2026, called on Ukraine’s parliament via X and Telegram to remove Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko from office without delay. Kravchenko resigned on September 7, 2026 after anti-corruption agencies raided prosecutors’ offices over an alleged bribery scheme in which investigators say a criminal organization headed by a senior official in the Prosecutor General’s Office took bribes to protect fraudulent call centers and laundered millions. Kravchenko was not charged or named a suspect. He remains in post until parliament acts; a vote was expected Tuesday, and Ukrainian law requires Zelenskyy to submit a formal request to accept the resignation. Earlier Monday, while abroad on an official trip, Kravchenko said he had signed a notice of suspicion against NABU head Semen Kryvonos, stating: “I suspect [Kryvonos] of falsifying official documents in order to obtain especially large illicit benefit.” He also accused Kryvonos of a fictional adoption to evade legal liability and said he intends to inform international partners about “the real state of affairs in the system of anti-corruption bodies, signs of their concentration of uncontrolled influence, and the risks that such practices pose for state sovereignty, the rule of law, and democratic institutions of Ukraine.” Zelenskyy wrote: “There is only one path for this Prosecutor General: removal from office. That is what I told him.” and “If he considers this political pressure, he is free to call it that. I ask parliamentarians to support his removal without delay.” NABU and SAPO rejected the allegations in a joint statement, saying they “regard these actions as a continuation of a systematic attack on independent anti-corruption bodies,” do not participate in political struggles, and that because no notice had been formally served, Kravchenko’s statements “currently have a public rather than procedural character.” The parliamentary vote and any formal service of the notice remain pending.
