Lakers Assign Bronny, Carr to G League
The Los Angeles Lakers assigned Bronny James and Cameron Carr to the Coachella Valley Lakers on November 5, 2026, ahead of Friday's opener against the Salt Lake City Stars at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert. James has averaged 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points in five games of the Lakers' 7-2 start. His nearly $2.3 million contract is guaranteed through the season. After the bench nearly blew a 15-point lead, JJ Redick said, "I won't make that mistake again. I'll leave the guys in. You gotta play to the final buzzer, and if guys are not ready to play, then I just won't put them in." WHAT'S CONTESTED: Daily Mail calls the move a demotion after nine games and describes James checking into a Raptors game up 16, committing a turnover, and being pulled as the lead fell to five. Yahoo Sports and Daily Mail put G League averages at 18.4 points, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds on 49.6% shooting in 25 games; Fox 11 cites ESPN at 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists. CBS Sports has 4 points in 12 minutes; Fox 11 has 66.7% shooting. Redick said in October James had a nice September and summer but did not play well in four preseason games (4-of-16). Coachella Valley opens Friday; James has prior G League stints.
