Former MLB All-Star Mark Teixeira won Texas’ 21st Congressional District seat, defeating Democrat Kristin Hook in a race for the seat Republican Chip Roy vacated. Teixeira, who won the Republican primary with more than 60% of the vote, campaigned on working with President Donald Trump to strengthen border security. His 14-season baseball career included three All-Star selections, five Gold Gloves, three Silver Sluggers and a 2009 World Series title with the Yankees.

Hook ran a solid campaign but Teixeira's name recognition probably sealed it in that district.
It's smart to have someone focused on border security right away, especially after Roy stepped aside.
Teixeira's baseball background could bring some real teamwork to Congress instead of the usual gridlock.
