Indiana Democrats Break GOP House Supermajority

Democrats broke the Republicans’ supermajority in Indiana’s state House, ending a 14-year run, after flipping GOP-held seats, including suburban districts around Indianapolis. The gains came amid a broader midterm backlash in which Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress and flipped seats in traditionally Republican states. Voters’ frustration over living costs and higher fuel prices linked to the Iran war helped drive opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration. Democrats promised aggressive congressional oversight of the war, Trump’s use of executive power and allegations involving Trump and his family. Trump said Republicans would have won decisively if he had been on the ballot, while analysts said the losses could pressure him and congressional Republicans to adjust course.
