Republican Gabe Firment and Democrat Pat (Patricia) Moore advanced to a Dec. 12 runoff for Louisiana’s open 5th Congressional District seat, finishing first and second in a crowded field with 17% and 18% of the vote, respectively. The race opened after Julia Letlow left the House seat to run for the U.S. Senate; several better-funded and prominent candidates failed to make the runoff, while Moore’s party endorsement was briefly misassigned before the party backed another candidate. In the 6th Congressional District, Democrat Chauna Banks and Republican Blake Miguez also advanced to a Dec. 12 runoff after each received about 19% in a 10-candidate field. That seat was left open by Cleo Fields, who is not seeking reelection after Louisiana redrew its congressional map following a Supreme Court ruling.
