Democrats Win Control of House and Senate
Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in a sweeping midterm victory, flipping traditionally Republican seats and making gains in state and local races. Their victories included Roy Cooper’s North Carolina Senate win and Jon Ossoff’s reelection in Georgia. Voter frustration over inflation and living costs, tariffs, and the Trump administration’s handling of the war in Iran contributed to Republican losses. President Donald Trump congratulated Democrats and said he would accept the results, while rejecting the election as a referendum on his presidency and warning he would veto legislation that conflicts with his agenda. Democratic leaders said their priorities would include affordability, oversight and reversing administration policies, and that impeachment would not be their first priority.
