Troy Jackson Defeats Susan Collins in Maine

Maine Gov. Janet Mills said she voted for Democrat Troy Jackson in the U.S. Senate race against Republican Sen. Susan Collins, without formally endorsing him. Jackson defeated Collins, ending her bid for a sixth term and flipping the seat as Democrats regained control of the Senate with 53 seats. Collins conceded before the Associated Press projected the race and promised a smooth transition. Jackson, a former logger and Maine Senate president, became the Democratic nominee after Graham Platner withdrew amid sexual assault allegations. Jackson campaigned on economic pressures, including rising energy costs, and criticized Collins for supporting President Trump’s agenda; Collins emphasized her seniority and ability to deliver funding for Maine.
