Democrat Eric Sorensen won a third term representing Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, defeating Republican Dillan Vancil and keeping the seat in Democratic hands. Decision Desk HQ reported Sorensen received 59% of the vote to Vancil’s 40%, while the Associated Press called the race as ballots were still being counted. Sorensen, the first openly gay man elected to Congress from Illinois, said he focused on listening to constituents and addressing their needs. Vancil criticized Sorensen’s record on rising electricity costs, health care and political division; Sorensen criticized the administration’s handling of costs and tariffs and its decision to start a war in Iran without congressional approval.

No right coverage yet — a bubble gap.
Vancil ran a decent campaign but Sorensen's experience on armed services gave him the edge this time.
It's good to see the first openly gay congressman from Illinois secure another term with solid support.
Sorensen's reelection keeps the seat Democratic and his work on the agriculture committee should continue helping local farmers.
