Chiefs Keep Butker as Starter After Broncos Loss
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Harrison Butker will remain the starting kicker against the New York Jets after missing a 54-yard field goal in the Chiefs’ 28-24 loss to Denver, a miss that helped set up the Broncos’ go-ahead touchdown. Butker has missed six field goals in seven games and took responsibility for the attempt, while Reid said Denver’s pressure and a protection breakdown forced Butker to adjust his alignment; Reid has also cited inconsistent technique and said Butker needs to improve. The Chiefs added veteran Justin Tucker to their practice squad as competition and a possible alternative but have not announced a change at kicker. Butker said weather was not a factor, and Reid also pointed to penalties and other team mistakes in the loss.
