Aaron Judge calf injection leaves Yankees postseason outlook uncertain

Aaron Judge received a platelet-poor plasma injection in his right calf Monday after a moderate soleus strain put him on the 10-day injured list Saturday. Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday, before a day-night doubleheader against the Rays, that the Yankees are planning on Judge not being part of the Wild Card Series. Boone said he is not expecting Judge back for an opener a week away but is not ruling it out. Judge is eligible for activation Sunday against Baltimore but will avoid much activity for several days. Judge was lifted in the sixth inning last Wednesday in Minnesota due to leg discomfort. An MRI confirmed the strain after symptoms persisted. He had returned Sept. 8 from a broken rib that kept him out more than three months and went 4 for 23 with 13 strikeouts in seven games. He is hitting .241 with 18 homers and 41 RBIs in 66 games. The Yankees entered Tuesday 48-41 without him and 41-25 with him, a loss from AL East elimination, and are expected to face the Boston Red Sox in the first round. Boone said the team has done a pretty good job without Judge much of the year and the expectation to win does not change.
