Ohtani Lands on Injured List With Arm Discomfort
Shohei Ohtani will not pitch again for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season and has been placed on the injured list for at least 15 days because of right-arm discomfort, including lingering right biceps and left-knee issues. His earliest possible return is around Sept. 22-23, leaving limited time to regain form before the postseason; manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani will remain in Los Angeles, rest for several days and gradually resume hitting. The Dodgers are calling up 21-year-old top prospect Josue De Paula from Double-A Tulsa to make his major-league debut and handle much of the designated-hitter workload. Los Angeles has won seven straight and leads the NL West by 11 games, but Ohtani’s absence could affect its pursuit of the National League’s top playoff seed and preparations for a third consecutive World Series title.
