Rocchio’s Grand Slam, Walk-Off Homer Lift Guardians

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 5-4, ending a three-game losing streak in Cleveland. Riley Greene had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Kevin McGonigle hit a solo home run; Greene has six extra-base hits in his last three games and is batting .360 since returning from the injured list. Troy Melton earned the win, and Kenley Jansen recorded his 494th career save. Minnesota cut a 5-2 deficit to one on Walker Jenkins’ two-run double but could not score again, leaving the Twins 4 1/2 games out of a playoff spot with 18 games remaining. The Tigers fell to 5-17 since Aug. 14, following a difficult Cleveland series in which the Guardians won three times on walk-offs, including a 3-2, 10-inning victory on Daniel Schneemann’s single; Brayan Rocchio tied that game with his 13th homer, while Gavin Williams struck out 11 for Cleveland.
