Beavers, Mayo Power Orioles Past Blue Jays 7-4
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 on Friday, moving within a game of Toronto in the American League wild-card race. Dylan Beavers energized Baltimore with his first career leadoff home run and three RBIs, while Coby Mayo added a solo homer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand collected three hits. The Orioles broke open the game with five runs in the second inning against Max Scherzer, who allowed six runs and seven hits in five innings. Chris Bassitt earned the win for Baltimore after striking out five and allowing two runs over five-plus innings, using a varied mix of sinkers, curveballs and cutters. Toronto rookie Brett Bateman hit his first career homer in the ninth, but Baltimore secured its third win in four games.
