San Francisco Giants slugger Rafael Devers’ season is over after the team placed him on the 60-day injured list with a core muscle injury he had managed while playing through much of the year. Devers will be evaluated by a specialist, and surgery is possible. He finished his first full season in San Francisco with a .258 average, 37 home runs and 98 RBIs, including a late surge in which he hit 11 homers over 18 games. Devers also became the seventh Giants player to record at least 35 home runs and 35 doubles in a season, joining several franchise legends. The Giants, already out of postseason contention, promoted outfielder Scott Bandura from Triple-A to fill his roster spot.

A specialist visit and possible surgery sounds serious, hope they can sort out the recovery plan without long term issues.
Bandura getting the call now feels like the right move as they try to close out what has been a rough stretch overall.
Devers put up big power numbers again but a core injury ending the year this way is brutal timing for the Giants.
