Phillies Reinstate Banks From Injured List, Option Holman to Triple-A

The Philadelphia Phillies reinstated left-hander Tanner Banks from the 60-day injured list before Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. Banks, who had been sidelined by a left forearm strain since July 9, is 0-4 with a 7.14 ERA in 28 appearances this season and completed multiple minor-league rehab outings. To make room, Philadelphia optioned right-hander Grant Holman to Triple-A after his difficult major-league debut and designated infielder Christian Cairo for assignment. Cairo, 25, was batting .227/.378/.298 with four home runs and 35 RBIs at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, though he could clear waivers and remain organizational depth.

Cairo gets DFA'd as the obvious roster casualty here, but the team still needs reliable infield depth if he clears waivers.
Holman showed some promise in his first big league game, sending him down right away feels like a missed chance to keep building his experience.
Banks has struggled badly with that ERA, hope the forearm is fully healed so he can contribute without more issues.
