Democrats Win Maryland County Executive Races With Historic Firsts
Democrat Vanessa Atterbeary was elected Howard County executive, defeating Green Party candidate Nater Kane; she is set to become the county’s first Black woman executive. In Baltimore County, Democrat Julian Jones declared victory and held a substantial lead over Republican Patrick Dyer, positioning him to become the county’s first Black county executive. Democrat Will Jawando also held a commanding early lead over Republican Esther Wells in the Montgomery County executive race. The results reflected strong Democratic performances in all three county executive contests, though the Baltimore and Montgomery reports described returns while counting was still underway.
