Republicans Capito and Rounds Secure Senate Reelection Wins
Republican Shelley Moore Capito won a third six-year term representing West Virginia in the U.S. Senate, defeating Democrat Rachel Fetty Anderson. Election calls and early results showed Capito with a substantial lead, though one report described the race as tighter than her previous victories. Capito said the win would give West Virginia a strong voice in Washington; she chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and is part of Senate Republican leadership. President Donald Trump endorsed her campaign. In South Dakota, Republican Sen. Mike Rounds was also declared the winner, defeating independent challenger Brian Bengs.
