Brewers Win First World Series Title
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in five games to win their first World Series title, following a franchise-record 103-win regular season. After Tampa Bay stayed alive with a 4-3, 12-inning walk-off win in Game 4, Milwaukee clinched the championship in Game 5. Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt drove in seven runs during the series, and catcher William Contreras was named MVP. Jacob Misiorowski earned the Game 5 win with 5⅔ scoreless innings before leaving with an apparent leg cramp, and the Brewers’ bullpen closed out the game. The title was Milwaukee’s first since its only previous World Series appearance in 1982, when it lost to St. Louis; players credited the team’s work and fan support as celebrations spread through Milwaukee and neighboring communities.
