Brewers, Rays Announce World Series Rosters
On Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, the Milwaukee Brewers released a World Series roster that included Brandon Woodruff, who has not pitched since July 4. He replaced Chad Patrick on the 13-man pitching staff. The Brewers will carry 13 pitchers and 13 position players, with position players unchanged from the NLDS and NLCS. Rosters were submitted hours before Game 1 in Milwaukee. The Rays made one change to their pitching staff. Woodruff, 33, a two-time All-Star with Milwaukee since 2017, has a 3.10 career ERA, best in Brewers history for pitchers with 500-plus innings. He went 2-2 with a 2.98 ERA in nine starts this season and is 1-3 with a 3.18 ERA in eight career playoff appearances, last pitching in 2021. Patrick went 9-4 with a 3.40 ERA and did not pitch in the NLDS or NLCS. Woodruff threw 23 pitches in live batting practice Oct. 20, sitting 90-92 mph. He said Thursday: "It would mean a ton. This is why I play. The playoffs are my jam, per se. I love this time of year. I love pitching in the big moments. I just kind of feel like I'm ready for this." Matt Arnold called him one of the most successful, dominant big-game pitchers he has been around and noted rule constraints and unknowns because he has not pitched since July 4. Adam McCalvy reported Woodruff is at peace either way. MLB allows roster replacement only for an acute, non-chronic injury, not a recurrence. CONTESTED: none found in record.
