Orioles reportedly hire Cubs’ Banner as GM

The Baltimore Orioles have hired Jared Banner, formerly an assistant general manager with the Chicago Cubs, as general manager to work alongside president of baseball operations Mike Elias. Banner will oversee player development, coaching and performance, and partner with Elias on strategy, staffing and talent acquisition as the club seeks to strengthen its baseball operations. He brings 18 years of front-office experience, including roles with the Cubs, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox. The appointment follows consecutive losing seasons and calls from Elias to expand the front office and bring in outside perspectives.

I worry the split with Elias could limit Banner's impact unless Baltimore gives him clear authority over key decisions.
Banner's time with the Cubs and Red Sox should add useful experience to help the Orioles improve their roster building.
