Brewers Win First World Series Championship
The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series championship, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 to take the series four games to one and end a 57-year wait for the franchise’s first title. Jacob Misiorowski held Tampa Bay to two hits and no runs over 5⅔ innings, and rookie Cooper Pratt drove in two runs as Milwaukee’s bullpen closed out the win. The Brewers followed a major-league-best 103-win regular season by beating the Padres, sweeping the Dodgers and defeating the Rays; their Game 5 victory came after Tampa Bay’s extra-inning win in Game 4 briefly delayed Milwaukee’s celebration. Manager Pat Murphy led the team to the championship, and fans celebrated at a Milwaukee watch party ahead of a downtown parade scheduled for Friday.
